Art in Term 4

It has been another action-packed term in Art! Do look at our photo Gallery to see more pictures of the students at work and their amazing creations.
Primary
Cherry Class have been using different mark-making techniques to recreate Vincent Van Gogh’s Sunflowers. They have used both sponge printing and Gelli printing. They did a great job when controlling the materials.
Apple Class have been learning about The Great Fire of London. They experimented with both chalk and oil pastels in order to recreate the appearance of fire. They then constructed buildings on top using strips of black card.
Willow, Pine and Oak classes have been learning about Peru in their art lessons. They were shown images of the colourful and decorative llamas that live there. Pupils are making humorous llamas as well as using poly-block prints to create Peruvian inspired patterns. The prints then get woven to make a jumper for their llama's long neck.
Beech class are making their 3D paper mache aliens that they designed. This has been a long process and all pupils have been very good at persevering and ensuring that each stage is completed before moving to the next.
Elm class are coming to the end of a project where they have looked at the River Cut and produced different pieces of artwork based on this. In their latest lesson they learnt to create polylock prints of British flowers.
Key Stage 3
Pluto and Jupiter class are continuing with the Dogs Project. This project mainly focusses on making 3-dimensional work and improving pupils’ fine motor skills. Using an egg box, pupils constructed their own dog head. This involved a lot of problem solving but pupils did brilliantly showing the characters of their dogs.
Saturn and Neptune classes have completed the Wings Project and have produced brilliant final pieces. They created sheets of their own decorative papers using marbling techniques, tie-dye and bubble printing. Looking at the structure of bird wings, pupils cut out individual feathers from their papers to create a large decorative wing.
Mercury class have completed the Keith Haring project. After learning about the artist Keith Haring, pupils used his style to represent the school values. They brainstormed ideas as a class, created two initial ideas each and then painted their final piece. Some very interesting interpretations were developed.
Earth class have just finished the Totem pole project. They designed a totem pole animal based on their own characteristics. They then used paper mache to recreate their design. This is very fiddly on a small scale so they had to show a lot of patience.
Competitions
Willow and Elm class are both creating an Easter Bonnet to be displayed in Hobbycraft Bagshot. Willow are being inspired by rainbows and unicorns whereas Elm class are decorating their bonnet with dinosaurs cracking out of Easter eggs.
All pupils were asked to create an entry for this year’s Ascot Racecourse School’s Art competition. All entries were delivered to the racecourse before the deadline ready for judging. It was great to see how each child interpreted the brief really differently.
